Rage Winterchill Wasted!

So today, after a leisurely SSC clear (sans Vashj since we’re saving her for Sunday), we took our first steps into Mt. Hyjal.

We intended to learn how to do the trash. We had about an hour before our raid was finished, so we figured we’d wipe a couple times learning the trash. We talked over the basics, fully expecting to die painfully and then started the pulls. One wave died….then another…and another. After 8 such waves, Rage Winterchill graced us with his presence.

We lost 5 melee right off the bat due to a “chain distract” fiasco as we tried to buy time to prepare for him. We also didn’t have a chance to change into the right gear for him, since we never got out of combat after the last wave. When he was at 25%, we had 8 people up and things looked a bit grim. We fought hard though, and still took him to 1% on our first ever attempt before wiping on the enrage timer.

We couldn’t let that be the end of it and picked ourselves up, fought back through the waves, and easily dismantled him. This guy is a pushover, which was a great change of pace after the difficulty of Lady Vashj and Kael’thas Sunstrider. Many people have told us that we’ll be ripping through Hyjal at a rapid pace and based on tonight’s festivities, they may well be right!

Kael’thas Kaput!

Yes, yes. It’s been another long time since our last update. We’ve been busy though, we swear!

Since we killed Lady Vashj and finished getting her Vial for all of our people, we’ve been completely focused on completing the quest that would grant us access to Mt. Hyjal (and via that, Black Temple). That meant focusing on arguably the toughest technical fight in the game in Kael’thas Sunstrider. So, for 3 nights a week since then, we’ve focused on him and got him tonight.

We learned and killed Kael’thas in 7 total nights. We had hoped to get him down before Patch 2.3 nurfed the health of his weapons and advisors and we were close, taking him to 54% on our final raid night before the patch hit. One more night before the nurf and we would have had him, but sadly it wasn’t meant to be.

I think we took out some of that frustration on him tonight, because we simply tore him apart on our kill. We were pissed, he was squishy and suffered as a result. Consequently, we only had to punch through one shock barrier before Phase 5 started.

Looking back, I guess I shouldn’t be shocked that attendance to these progression raids were higher than to our regular raids. We always thrive on challenges.

I’m not surprised that people always came prepared and ready to go with new ideas, consumables and focus. That’s the expectation we have for ourselves.

I should have known that we’d beat our head against one of the toughest fights in the game, one that has frustrated (and destroyed) numerous guilds, and come away with a kill in a relatively short amount of time. We love doing in 3 days a week what many can’t in 5.

We worked hard and won where many others have struggled. If you know us, then you know that’s honestly no surprise at all.
